Songs or recordings played on radio are owned by the songwriter, composer, artist and record company. If we were not in an educational facility we would be stealing the song but because we are we don't need to pay for it. Royalty's are payed to the artist to play their song for example if someone is playing a song on the BBC radio station they would have to pay the artist.
You need four licenses to play in the shops for e.g PRS or PPL. PRS collects royalty's for using the music for the writer composer and publishers. PPL License bought from the PPL allows you to play music in public. To legally play an artists music the radio station must by a licence.
Section 8 This section is about fairness they apply to broadcasters treat the individuals or organisations participating or affected by programs or in the making of programs, rather than what the general public see's and hears as viewers and listeners.
If you fail to follow it breaks the rules and it results in unwanted infringement of privacy. The broadcasting act 1996 requires OFCOM to consider complaints about unwanted infringement of privacy and program.

BBC 1 RADIO
Critically comment and evaluate- how effective is the station at serving the target audience of 15- 29 year olds through the station's music programming?
For a start the music for this station is perfect its a hint of everything from hip hop to urban and a bit of comteporary, that's what I like about it because it has quite a broad and large audience 15 year olds starting with hip hop then 20s to urban and then 20+ contemporary. I believe that this station defintley know what music to play because If you don't have the right audience then your going to lose listeners, and people wont like to listen to your station. This one station hast you will always be listening to, in a way it keeps you going, the show has an effective running order, its not always songs after songs they give you updates about the artists after the songs they give you back announcement. They give out idents such as " Sara Jane Crawford." It is always important to give idents because those that tune in late will always know who you are. Even in their playlist they have set out their most popular in the A category then gradually in to B and C. A being the most popular songs such as Alicia Keys, Niki Minaj and Wiley. Sara keeps you interested " there's a lot going on today where here till 4" " win yourself tickets." This is the kind of stuff that keeps your audience interested and engaged.

Asda FM Live
What is the purpose of in store radio?
When your shopping they will be giving you updates on items that you may want to but for example special offers, such as buy one and get 1 free you may be in store and hear something and think oh I want to try that. Also you may be shopping and forget something you never knew it existed and could come up on the radio.
Who are the target audience for Asda FM?
Well youngsters don't have an interest in this sort of stuff this is more like a adult audience I would say 20+ because, they're more likely to do the weekly shopping not their children.
What type of (genres, styles, era) of music do Asda FM play?
Asda FM play contemporary/ classical such as Oly Murs, Emile Sande etc. Very relaxed type of music.
How well do you think the radio station reaches out to the target audience/ actual audience through the music played? The whole point of this radio station is to attract customers with their goods however more then half of the show is just music like any other radio station, to get attention they need to give more updates on what they are selling.

This is defintley not a station for 15- 29 year olds because for a start when a radio station like this is on they have no interest in the shopping side of it. All that teenagers do is listen to the music and their not even going to do that because the music is classic and contemporary. Teenagers target audience for music would be young artists that sing hip hop or urban style music. If this show was set out for 15+ it would never work because its not set out to that age range, however if they did set this out to youngsters they could even end up losing customers this is because the teenagers wont even want to shop there. Also they may lose customers because no one will want to listen to the show because all it is full of is music, there's probably 1 update after about 5 songs. I think they defintley need to improve this station they need to bring a little bit of hip hop at least because people in their 20s even listen to hip hop. On the other hand the main thing that needs developing is the running order of the show, songs after songs which will not engage the customers. They need to give regular updates even if they do back anouncements after each song and before even during the song they can add in a fade and give an update. Also their motto " saving you money every day" doesn't help because on the show they are hardly giving updates so how do they expect customers to know what's on offer? Then how are they meant to make money?

Evaluation for both radio shwos
I have enjoyed making these radio shows and editing them. I feel for this brief I have done extremely well partly because I have enjoyed doing this assignment. At the beginning I did feel a little bit confused, but it all made sense when the voice pops came together.
For the teenage audience I did have some weaknesses because it was mainly just music however I improved on the adult radio show because I added an extra topic about Brighton. For the teenage show I could have improved by adding a teenage topic something which will appeal to them as youngsters. For the adult show it was more full on I had weather updates about the snow, news and also the Brighton feature. I also added in my music profile of my favorite Artist Shystie at the end.
I would say that both shows did appeal to their audiences for example in the teenage one there is music which the younger generation are listening to such as urban and hip hop. On the other hand for the adult radio show I have including classical music some songs from the 1960's. Also the Brighton feature is perfect for the adults it includes information on places such as, the pier, pavilion, lanes, cafes the marina etc.
If I was to compare my show to a professional I would have so many ideas to improve on for a start, my speech I feel like I could have put some energy in to the way I was talking this way you are keeping your audience interested. I feel that in the teenage show I should have added some information about the singers, because on a professional radio show the give you information on the artist their latest updates, latest music etc, this really helps engage your audience and keep them tuned because they will want to fiund out more and more.
